Elizabeth Street Carpark Refresh

This project was initiated by the Tauranga City Council to enhance and refresh the internal and external walls of the stairwells.

The work included waterproofing external walls, repainting and stencilling internal surfaces, and completing the Elizabeth Street entrance façade in preparation for a feature mural during the upcoming local art festival.

These upgrades were implemented to create a safer and more visually appealing public space, while also supporting community engagement and long-term asset maintenance.

Project Objectives & Constraints

This project involved working within a fully operational car park, which required continuous vehicle access and ensured safe public movement through stairwells and shared spaces throughout the day. A portion of the work was carried out at a height of 20 metres on the external wall, adding further complexity to site safety. The primary objective was to carefully manage and mitigate these risks while delivering the project successfully, balancing health and safety requirements with client expectations, budget constraints, and overall project delivery.

Project Outcome

Waterproof the external walls of both stairwells to ensure long-term protection against the elements. Complete the external wall at the Elizabeth Street entrance to accommodate the installation of a commissioned mural in time for the local art festival. Prepare, paint, and apply stencilling to the internal walls, doors, and handrails within both stairwells to enhance durability and visual appeal.
